Artificial Intelligence: What, Where, How, and Why
Artificial Intelligence is a technology which is now widely used to make Machines Intelligent like Human Beings. It is a working process to make Machines think like Human Beings.
One little example of AI is the fact that the spam mail is not stored in your personal mailbox. They have a separate spam folder for it. Ever wonder how the system detect the spam mail and store it in the spam folder? It is possible because of the use of the AI.
Another little example of it is if a viewer watches a video on Youtube he will see more videos than those of the same category. How is this possible? again, because of the AI.
Short description of Artificial Intelligence:
The human brain consists of neurons. A human brain contains 100 billion neurons. These are connected with one, like a network and has the capability of having at least 10,000 connections with the neighboring cells. Artificial neural networks have been prepared by following this biological neural network.

Artificial neural networks belong to AI. Basically, this is a branch of machine learning. And AI also has machine learning as a branch of it. Other things of AI without machine learning are natural language processing, object recognition, pattern recognition, robotics, evolutionary computations such as genetic algorithms, fuzzy systems, probability, prediction, knowledge management, and others.
History of AI:
Most people think that AI is the discovery of modern science which is not true. Even though this field has had an incredible development in the past 5-6 years, but in fact, AI has started developed since 1940. Various studies have started since then. Before the computer was invented, how the machine was given the power to think about the power of thought like power, the scope of the field increased only after the invention of the computer.
But after the Second World War in the Western civilized world, the work in this field started soon. Famous English mathematician Alan Turing first spoke about AI in 1947. Since then, the scientists started working on this field with their own initiative.
Alan Turing published an article in 1950 named computing Machinery and Intelligence. In that article, he wrote about the feasibility of acquiring a machine’s human intelligence. His statement was that if a machine can think and work like a human, it should be called intelligent. This idea of Alan Turing is known as the Turing Test.
Three categories of AI:
ANI or Artificial Narrow Intelligence: ANI is an expert in a particular area. For example, If a machine can play chess, he can just be good enough in playing chess. Despite the fact that playing ludo is easier than playing chess, that machine cannot play ludo instead of chess. ANI is also known as Weak AI or the first step of artificial intelligence.
AGI or Artificial General Intelligence: AGI is the second step of AI which is also called Strong AI, or Human-Level AI. At this step, the computer will be able to think like a human, plan like a human, solve a problem like a human. And also if the machine goes to a new environment, seeing the surroundings it will be able to adapt to that environment.
ASI or Artificial Super Intelligence: When the computer is more intelligent than people, we will call Artificial Super Intelligence. It is the third step in AI. Scientists and Researchers are already worried about the future of artificial superintelligence, what would happen if this system was created, whether it would be good or bad to humans.
Why Artificial Intelligence is important:
Starting from Google, Apple, Microsoft, the world’s largest big organizations are refining themselves as Artificial Intelligence. This shows how important AI is. All these organizations are using AI in some areas and the rate of investment is:
There are many categories of Artificial Intelligence, which means this is the combination of many complex things. Machine learning is one of them. Deep Learning is another category of machine learning.
What is Machine Learning:
Machine learning is a process to find a short but meaningful information from a lot of data, and then calculate what to do at the next stage according to that information. Such as the system that detects spam email. This system is taught in such a way that if there are certain words/patents in an e-mail, they are automatically sent to a spam folder. That’s why the system is initially allowed to read thousands of spam emails, and it is said that this word is a spam mail.
What is Deep Learning:
Deep Learning is another category of machine learning. Through this, lots of information is given to the system at once, so that the machine can learn from there and later decide itself in the same situation itself. Neural networks are used to access many data into a system.

Since there are many categories of artificial intelligence, machine learning, and deep learning, people may ask about the proper ways of learning about it. However, It is not impossible to teach and learn anything in this era of the internet. Patience, regular practice and interest to know are possible.
Artificial Intelligence has a lot of mathematical work. So proper knowledge about mathematics is required.
Discrete Math–It is necessary to know for any programming.
Multivariable Calculus (Calc 3) – Useful for Machine optimization.
Differential Equations (Calc 4) – This part of mathematics is useful for Robotics, especially in motion control.
Linear Algebra – Highly important to for Neural Network.
Probability and Statistics – Useful for Data Science.
So it’s time for us to work in the field of artificial intelligence. Every industry, people, educational institutions, important people, government-non-government organizations, investment firms should work together to make improvements in this area for the development of the country. But unfortunately, in Bangladesh, except 2-3 organizations, no proper activities or research happening now in this area. Lack of investment and sponsor (Both governmental and non-governmental) is hampering the progress in the area of artificial intelligence. A.I. is the future of science, technology, and the human race. If we fail to improve in this area, it means we will struggle in the future of the modern world. So it is high time to invest in this area to make a proper improvement.
